NEXT GAMES FEBRUARY 25, 2012
4:00-6:00 PM - Sole Roll Indoor Soccer - 4434 McEwen Rd - Dallas, TX - 75244 - Cost: $5 Per Player - Public Invited
Bring your dodgeball team, your friends or just yourself to Dallas Dodgeball Open Play on Saturday, February 25th, 2012 from 4-6PM at the Sole Roll Indoor Soccer facility in North Dallas. At Open Play, we pick teams from people who show up and start playing. If 20 people show up, then it's 10 on 10. If 50 people show up then it's 25 on 25. The average game lasts about 5 to 10 minutes, so if you get out, you'll be back in the action soon for the next game. (Recently, we've had enough people in attendance to have the kids play on one field and the adults play on two fields.)
Sole Roll Indoor Soccer Facility

Dodgeball open play is held at the Sole Roll Indoor Soccer facility located near the intersection of LBJ and Midway Road (near the Galleria) in north Dallas. The Sole Roll facility is a premier facility perfectly suited for dodgeball. The fields are the perfect size for dodgeball, have netting to keep dodgeballs in play, and are carpeted for your safety. The Sole Roll facility is the new home for Dallas Dodgeball in the north Dallas area. The facility has restrooms (but no water fountain at this time, so bring your own water or other non-alcoholic drinks). Below are photos of the Sole Roll Indoor Soccer facility:

RULES

1. Teams will start each game with six players. The six players can be all male, all female or any combination. Minimum four players required to start game.
2. Before the start of the game, dodgeballs are evenly distributed between the two opposing teams. Players must start the game on the back line.
3. Play begins at the whistle, or the words "on your mark, get set, go." Players are free to move around on their side of the court, but if a player crosses the center line onto the opposing team's side then that player is ruled out.
4. You can get an opposing player out by either hitting them (including clothing and costumes) with a thrown ball (without the ball touching the ground), or catching a ball thrown by an opposing player. If a ball hits more than one player on a throw, all players hit will be called out. (This is known as pinball.)
5. If a person catches a ball and gets an opposing player out, then a person who is already out on the catcher's team can return to play. The first one out is the first one back in. The player returning to play is allowed to reestablish themselves on the court when coming off the bench. (If there are already six players, the person who threw the ball is still out, but no new player will be allowed back in to the game.)
6. If a player is struck but the ball is caught either by the struck player or by a teammate before it touches the ground, wall, netting (etc.), the player who threw the ball will be called out. But once the ball hits the side wall, netting or floor, the ball is dead and the player cannot be saved. If a ball hits one, two, three or more people, but is still saved, then the thrower is out and all persons hit before the ball was caught are still in.
7. A person may block a thrown ball with a held ball, but if that ball is knocked out of their hands and hits the floor, then that person (who was holding the ball) is out. If the thrown ball (that knocks a ball out of a player's hands) is caught by another player, the person who dropped the ball is still out. If that ball hits another player and is not caught then both the player whose ball was knocked out of their hands and the player or players the ball hits afterwards are all out.
8. Trapped balls, balls that are "caught" by a player but hit the floor at the same time, result in neither the thrower or catcher being called out.
9. Players can hold as many balls as they wish. A player may catch another ball and get the opposing player out while holding a ball or balls.
10. Head shots are not allowed. If a person is hit in the head then that person is still in, unless the player ducked into the ball.
11. Once out, players must leave the field of play. To safely leave the field of play, raise your hand so the other team knows you are out and are leaving the field.
12. Players are under the honor system and are required to leave the field of play if out. Usually, the player is the one who knows better than anyone if they are out or not. There will be a volunteer ref for the championship series.
13. Stronger players are urged to "take it easy" on weaker or younger players.
14. A ball should never be kicked.
15. Balls cannot be batted, spiked etc.
16. Players cannot pinch, deflate or crumple balls.
17. Suicide plays are not allowed. (In some leagues, a player can jump onto the opposing side and throw a ball before touching the ground, and if that throw results in an opposing player being out, then the person who threw the ball is not out. But if the jumper/thrower does not get an opposing player out, then that player who jumped and threw the ball is out.)
18. Once a game is started there will be no substitutions except in the case of an injury to a player.
19. Dishonest, abusive or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and may result in the player being ejected from the game and/or event.
20. Alcohol and illegal drugs will not be tolerated at the event.
21. The Commissioner of Dodgeball (Tom Wakefield) is the final rule on any situation not covered by the above rules.
